We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, anti-racism and inclusion.   The Lab Technician I has primary responsibility for the material components of the Science Education Partnership’s (SEP) Kit Loan Program, overseeing the packing and restocking of over 88 available kits for 25 different curricula, which are loaned out 400 times annually for two-week periods to middle and high school science teachers. These kits serve over 16,000 students (and supporting over 35,000 student-uses of materials) annually across Washington State. The Lab Technician plays a key role in helping engage a broad and diverse group of students in science as well as promoting awareness of Fred Hutch in our community. Responsibilities Kit and Materials Preparation Pack, unpack and inventory kit items Prepare reagents and maintain backup stocks Perform quality control tests    Data Entry Data entry and kit tracking in FileMaker/Airtable database Provide technical support for the SEP inventory system   Administrative Tasks Contribute to design and delivery of SEP’s external communications, including newsletter and social media Assisting SEP team with other administrative tasks (ex: data entry/collection, mailing etc.)   Curriculum and Education Support In conjunction with the SEP team, develop new curriculum ideas and methods Draft student and teacher written resources Create new protocols and troubleshoot their effectiveness for classroom use Participate in delivering SEP’s educational programming for high school students Provide guidance and mentorship to high school students through SEP programs   Training and Supporting Kit Interns Under the supervision of SEP staff, train new undergraduate student interns

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Please submit cover letter when applying High school diploma or GED with interest in the sciences Highly organized and detail-oriented Ability to follow directions and ask for clarification Punctual and reliable, with strong time management skills Ability to communicate effectively, including strong writing skills Client/Customer service experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: College coursework in biology and chemistry, with quantitative analytical skills Experience with molecular biology lab work (including handling reagents, micropipetting, and gel electrophoresis) Experience with inventory tracking Experience in an environment that provides resource support to educators Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine requirement, with exceptions only for approved medical or religious accommodations.
