Job Description

To assist users with technical support, problem resolution, and training related to client/server computer systems and applications used within Torrance Memorial Medical Center and COR Cardiology. Uses PC computer and network skills and background to act as a liaison to help maximum advantage of automated applications. Core Competencies Provides technical support on hardware, software, networking, and data communications aspects of computer systems. Sets up, configures, and maintains user workstations (clients) and selected servers for network-based applications and Internet access. Cable manages all wires to provide a clean and safe working environment. Provides troubleshooting skills and solves minor equipment problems for PC hardware, networking, and data communications. Provides problem identification and definition on extensive equipment problems and recommends solution alternatives. Provides training and support on software and hardware for PC products and how it can be used either standalone or as part of hospital system. Assists users in defining hardware, cabling, and PC software needs and works with users to select computer or application products to meet defined requirements. Sets up PC applications. Works with users to document and define business needs in development of specifications. Assists users in determining most effective way to use existing computer tools to meet and/or solve business needs and provides project plans and schedules on how to accomplish the tasks. Prioritizes workload requests to meet deadlines agreed upon with users or supervisor. Maintains familiarity with hospital application systems, what the major processes are, and which departments use the individual applications. Sets up and maintains network security systems for client/server access. Prepares user guides, performs and monitors system installations and schedules, and creates basic training documentation for user instruction. Interacts with Operations by scheduling tests and system time as needed and prepares turnover documentation to transition new applications into production job stream. Maintains awareness of competitive system offerings and makes recommendations on possible additions or enhancements to existing systems. Informs supervisor promptly of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes necessary corrective action when it’s appropriate and/or suggests alternative to supervisor for decision. Translates technical issues into easily understood user terms. Handles work assignments without close review of results by supervisor. Scans technical documents and extracts information required to perform duties of position. Works on multiple projects and support issues at one time. Follows up on tasks. Participates as a “team player” and works with other analysts, Operations staff, and users in resolving problems. Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (BPI projects, task forces, etc) when warranted. Documents all activities. Diagnoses and resolves technical issues remotely as needed. Escalates issues to Manager or appropriate personnel. Helps in coordinating the relocation of peripheral hardware moves. Maintains professional growth and development to keep abreast of the field. Makes recommendations related to procedures and resources that may be needed. Performs all adds, moves and changes. Reports any abnormal condidtions in the system to the supervisor. Reports to supervisor any changes to the system or its operation. Troubleshoots the system and its components. Works during emergency situations by direction of the Director of IT Infrastructure and Operation anywhere as needed in the Medical Center.
