This job works under the direction of department leadership with minimal supervision; assumes responsibility for the development and management of the DME Rehab program to include staff selection and training; oversight of employees supervised, annual performance assessments of employees supervised, inventory selection with pricing negotiation, as well as managing the operating budget for this new program as a critical component of the Strategic Plan for the DME Division; interfaces with Health System Physicians, Administrative and Clinical Managers, and the Care Management and Social Services Teams to develop a comprehensive discharge planning program as it relates to orthopedic bracing and orthotics that will include developing a Referral Network, Management of OHME Orthotic Consignment closets throughout the health system; assumes responsibility for closet Inventory and reconciliation; assumes responsibility for training of clinic staff upon initial closet set-up and any subsequent training necessary when new staff arrives; and supports Assistant Vice President and Manager/Director with administrative processes including office management, project management, and team initiatives of the department in support of departmental goals and objectives.

Required - High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred - Bachelor's Degree

Additional degrees, business training experience, and/or certifications may be combined to meet minimum qualifications.

Work Experience
Required - 3 years experience and specific knowledge of knowledge of DME coverage requirements; insurance company authorization processes; documentation requirements; and insurance billing requirements for DME services at either the provider or Insurance company level
Two years of related health experience or two years of orthopedic fitter experience with relevant orthopedic products OR Bachelor’s degree

Preferred - Knowledge of Kronos and Lawson information systems
Experience with large, complex, multifaceted organizations and systems


Preferred - Certification as a Certified Fitter of Orthotics 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Exhibits skills to effectively fit and deliver non-custom orthotic devices such as, cervical orthoses not requiring more than minor modification; pressure gradient host; trusses; non-complex pre-fabricated spinal orthoses and prefabricates orthoses of upper and lower extremities.
  • Basic administrative skills including typing proficiency, basic understanding of data processing, effective use of communications equipment to include fax, phone, e-mail, internet, and conference lines.
  • Skills to establish and maintain friendly and cooperative relations with those contacted In the course of work.
  • Impeccable organizational skills necessary to coordinate the administrative details of multiple activities involving multiple constituents.
  • Skills to establish and meet deadlines.
  • Skills to anticipate issues that adversely impact the function of the department and use deductive reasoning skills to solve problems.
  • Excellent decision-making, delegating, communications, and technical writing skills.
  • Exhibits leadership skills and skills to foster an environment of teamwork, professionalism, customer satisfaction, high performance, and mutual respect of others, plus possess a positive attitude and the skills to dazzle customers.

Job Duties

  • Develops, manages, and markets the Rehab Services Program.
  • Develops, manages, and markets the Orthopedic Bracing Program.
  • Manages OHME Consignment closets located throughout the system.
  • Manages DME Division support services& Marketing and Sales for Rehab and Orthopedic Referral Program.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

The incumbent works within or around patient areas  with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms.  The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
