Job Summary Statement
The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.
A Nurse Apprentice is a student who participates in a hospital-based training program through a college/university. The Nurse Apprentice will function as a Patient Care Assistant/Tech under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. A Nurse Apprentice will receive one on one training with a Registered Nurse while meeting their clinical requirements for school.
Some of the many skills performed
Bathing patients and personal hygiene, (ie. nailcare, mouthcare, and shampooing hair)
Serve meal trays and feeding patients
Turning and positioning
Assisting patients with ambulation and transfer from bed to chair
Measuring and recording I & O
Assist with toileting
Transporting patients on admission and discharge
During clinical rotation hours:
Given opportunities to demonstrate their skills and understanding as student nurse with a mentor
Exposed to all aspects of nursing care on their assigned unit
Must be in the second semester of Nursing School at Snead State Community College, Wallace State Community College, or Northeast Alabama Community College.
Must obtain a Nurse Apprentice permit from the Alabama Board of Nursing.
