Under the direction of the Director of Medical Staff Services/Performance Improvement, this position plans, supervises, and organizes the activities of the Medical Staff Services Department always with consideration of the needs and requirements established by the Medical Staff and external regulatory agencies. Providing direction includes planning, managing, coordinating, and evaluating activities for which responsible. This position must take into consideration the identified needs and requirements established by the Medical Staff, external agencies, and the Medical Center.
Assists with the development of all annual objectives for the Medical Staff Services Department, Medical Library and physician CME Program which appropriately reflect the priorities of the organization and the Medical Staff.
Assists with the development of the annual fiscal budget for the Medical Staff Services Department, Medical Library and physician CME Program and ensures ongoing control, on a monthly basis, of all related operational expenses
Prepares and manages all correspondence and follow-up work generated by assigned medical staff departments and committees.
Evaluates capital equipment needs, both related to office equipment and furnishings.
Provides input and assists with the performance of Employee Performance Appraisals for the Medical Staff Services, Coordinators and Credentialing Specialists within the department.
Provides direct supervision of the day-to-day operations of the Medical Staff Services Department, Medical Library and the Continuing Education Program ensuring necessary coordination with other departments
Provides oversight for all technical components and systems for the Medical Staff Services Department.
Ensures the Medical Staff Services Department supports the overall credentialing of the Medical Staff which encompasses the appointment/reappointment process, specific delineation of clinical privileges, and periodic in- depth reappraisal of each Medical Staff member. Assures that credentialing is performed in an ethical and fair manner and in accordance with State and Federal law and meets the requirements of all regulatory agencies..
Ensures secretarial support is effectively provided to all Medical Staff meetings and the timely coordination of meetings, meeting preparation, meeting minutes and meeting follow-up per departmental guidelines.
Ensures that appropriate confidentiality measures are implemented to protect information organized and collected by the Medical Staff Services Department in support of Medical Staff membership, privileges and discipline.
Ensures knowledge of and appropriate reporting regarding compliance with the applicable standards of the JCAHO, or other accrediting agencies, the statutory and regulatory requirements for the medical center operations and licensing (such as Title 22).
Works with the Medical Staff Performance Improvement Department to assist with coordinating the Performance Improvement activities of the Medical Staff, including coordination of related chart reviews by medical staff committees, appropriate taking of minutes reflecting performance improvement activities within committees when appropriate.
Assists with coordination of physician corrective action as required
Assists the Chief of Staff in the Absence of the Director of Medical Staff Services/Performance Improvement
