Job Description

The Patient Relations Assistant is responsible for acknowledging and registering patients to UK HealthCare for outpatient services. They will identify opportunities to provide a positive customer experience by monitoring wait times, resolve patient complaints, and collaborate to prevent and resolve service failure process problems; communicate with insurance providers to verify coverage and benefits; work closely with medical, ancillary, and clerical staff in a clinical setting; collect co-pays and payments from patients; and maintain HIPAA compliance regarding release of patient information. Includes other clerical and medical records tasks as needed. The University of Kentucky considers the health, safety and well-being of our entire community to be a top priority. In alignment with this priority, all new hires must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption as a condition of employment. For areas that fall under the federal CMS mandate, start of employment cannot occur until two weeks after receiving the full COVID-19 vaccination series or upon obtaining an approved exemption. Only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization can be accepted.


The ideal candidate will have extensive customer service experience and the ability to communicate in a calm and helpful manner during stressful and/or crisis situations. Should also have the ability to demonstrate a high regard for attention to detail; a teamwork mindset; data entry skills and respect for confidentiality; ability to prioritize tasks efficiently; and the ability to work in multiple systems simultaneously.
