PEER RECOVERY SUPPORT SPECIALIST – BEHAVIORAL HEALTH (2 SOUTH) Marietta Memorial Hospital, 401 Matthew Street, Marietta, Ohio, United States of America Req #2955 Thursday, July 28, 2022 Status: Flex Time – 48 hours Hours: Varies as scheduled In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Peer Recovery Support Specialist is under the direct supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health in conjunction with the treatment staff at Memorial Health System is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. They will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. The employee shall additionally be responsible for the timely and accurate completion of all associated case records. This position requires flexible hours as needed to ensure service provision.Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Requirement: High school diploma or G.E.D. required and 2 letters of recommendation; must have worked within the last three years required with at least 12 months total of successful or part or full time paid or voluntary work experience preferred and have acquired or meet the qualifications for certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter required. Individual must have an understanding of and respect for each individual’s unique path to recovery. Peer Recovery Supporter must have a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system and demonstrated 18 month – 2 years minimum commitment to the recovery community. BLS required. Handling Aggressive Behavior, Safety Practices, Cultural Competency, Client Rights, v Job Functions: Lived experience of a mental health and/or substance use disorder Knowledge of the Recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized mental health processes. Knowledge and skills to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individuals in self-directed recovery. Ability to assist individuals in addressing symptoms using strategies such as positive self-talk. Knowledge and skills sufficient to use community resources necessary for independent living and ability to teach those skills to other individuals with severe mental illness. Knowledge of how to establish and sustain self-help (mutual support) and educational groups by soliciting input from individuals on their strengths and interests. Consults assigned by supervisor and treatment team. Attends agency meetings and unit staffings. There may be times when employee is on call to assure emergency services to clients are available all business hours as needed. Responsible for accurate, complete documentation for case records and other records as necessary. Follows all hospital safety policies and procedures including handling aggressive behaviors, exhibits cultural competency, maintains all required licenses and certificates, demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
