In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Medical Technologist is responsible for performing specimen testing and operates various laboratory instruments and reports results to appropriate personnel. This position is also responsible for obtaining samples for analysis and oversees maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or appropriate related field required
Minimum of 1 year internship/experience in an accredited hospital required or successful completion of an MLT program with MT Board active licensure in accordance with the grandfathering of the National Registry Guidelines required
Successful completion of the (ASCP) Board of Registry or other national certification required within 1 year of hire
Light clerical and interpersonal skills
Performs specimen testing (manual and automated) and operates various laboratory instruments.
Obtains specimens for analysis in the hospital and at off-site locations.
Oversees maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and procedures.
Performs Linearity, Calibrations, and Quality Control as required by instrument and accreditation guidelines.
Performs all assigned Proficiency Testing in a timely manner.
Reviews and signs all electronic document control records as assigned.
Assists with lab clerical duties including recalling results, faxing reports, and calling of alert values to physicians.
Properly documents and reports NCE investigation.
Utilizes Meditech to create site batches for specimen transport.
Directs and trains students and new lab employees in procedures and operation of instruments.
Replenishes supplies and maintains adequate stock in working area.
Under direction of the section supervisor, researches and evaluates new products, procedures, and equipment.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. Minimum hiring rate for this position is listed below.
