Summary

Position Summary

The HIM Operations Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the information processing section of the HIM Department. This could include all aspects of release of information, deficiency analysis, document management and the HIM call center. This position reports to the HIM Manager or HIM Director and assists in planning, organizing workflow, quality, productivity, performance evaluation process and oversees time and attendance of staff members.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    1. Education:  Associate degree required or equivalent experience of 3-5 years in Health Information Management or other related healthcare field
    2. License/Certifications:  N/A
    3. Experience: Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working in Health Information Management department or equivalent hospital and/or medical practice setting required. Prior experience training teams and/or leading projects preferred.   
      • Requires knowledge of state and federal legal requirements related to health information management and release of information. Successful completion of medical terminology course is required.
    4. Knowledge of health record processing systems, record content, confidentiality, workflow and chart analysis.
    5. Effective skills in communication, coaching, planning, motivation and establishing effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
    6. Ability to make decisions, exercise independent judgment, and work without supervision, setting priorities and coordinating multiple tasks and simultaneous projects in order to maintain control of workflow.
    7. Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet communications.
    8. Ability to effectively navigate and utilize all EMR (Electronic Medical Record) applications, as well as their corresponding dashboards and productivity tracking reports.
    9. Ability to provide remote supervisory support to HIM operations staff across multiple sites, as needed, to support the integrated HIM model.
