Job Description

The Chief Nursing Officer reports to the Chief Executive Director. The nurse executive routinely assumes oversight responsibility for the provision of effective, high quality and safe nursing care throughout the organization; the development of productive work teams; consumer satisfaction activities; staff retention efforts; and the development, presentation and management of the nursing services’ portion of the hospital’s budget. The nurse executive must demonstrate an extensive knowledge of the current complexities of the health care industry, expertise in budgeting, trend variance analysis, strategic planning, marketing, and an understanding of information technology, as well as political and economic skills.



Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BS required/MSN preferred

  • The nurse executive possesses the knowledge and skills associated with a master’s degree in nursing or a related field or another appropriate postgraduate degree, or has a written plan to obtain these qualifications


Experience: Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in some supervisory capacity.

  •                          Ideal candidate will possess 1-3 years experience in a senior healthcare

                             management role.


Training:   Comprehensive knowledge of nursing management and demonstrates the

  •                                  ability to apply sound management principles; must be an effective change

                                        agent with knowledge of management modalities.


Licensure: Must obtain registration in the State of Mississippi as a Registered Nurse.


Other: The education and experience required for peer leadership positions.
