SUMMARY: The Cardio Diagnostic Technician (EKG Tech) will provide cardiac electrodiagnostic studies (EKGs, Holter Monitors, Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitors, Electroencephalograms, Stress Testing, and Tilt Table Testing) in a professional and courteous manner; perform some secretarial skills such as charting, answering telephones and scheduling procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School or GED
Special Skills: EKG course completed. American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the GHS Staff Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the GHS Staff Development Office are approved by Staff development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two years.
Experience: Less than one year
Physical Requirements: Medium - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. EKG Tech: Quality of Work Description
EKG Technician always checks patient identification by verbal and armband recognition as well as birth date before any procedure .Always examines the requisition for information such as procedure request, appropriateness for exams, patient conditions. Always explains procedure to facilitate cooperation from patients in a manner that is consistent with their level of understanding. Demonstrates the ability to recognize abnormal EKG rhythm strips and notifies physician. Always completes all paperwork assuring that it is complete in a timely manner. Technician accurately demonstrates ability to input patient charges and data in Meditech HIS systems. Demonstrates ability to check all equipment prior to procedures to assure proper operation. Cleans equipment between all procedures. Able to recognize emergent conditions and react appropriately. Cleans and restocks rooms after all procedures.
EKG Tech: Knowledge of Job
Always demonstrates competency in the use of all related equipment, patient monitoring, data acquisition and reporting processes. Must be able to generate collected data for interpretation and report processing for processing of final interpretation and reporting in EMR.
Must be able to use proper application of 12-lead EKG equipment with set-up and collection of EKG data with ability to trouble shoot equipment for problem solution when necessary.
HOLTER MONITORS (HM)
Must be able to ensure the proper application of holter monitor equipment with accurate set-up and collection of 24 to 48 hrs of ambulatory data with ability to trouble shoot equipment for problem solution when necessary. Must be able to inventory and process holter monitor equipment daily.
AMBULATORY BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORS (ABP)
Must be able to ensure the application of ABP equipment with accurate set-up and collection of ambulatory data with ability to trouble shoot equipment for problem solution when necessary. Must be able to inventory and process ABP equipment.
Must be competent in the set-up and use of EEG equipment for the acquisition of quality EEG data in the evaluation of infectious diseases of the nervous system, head trauma, cerebral vascular accidents, and epilepsy. Must be able to generate collected quality EEG data for report processing by third party for physician interpretation and report transfer into EMR.
Must be able to prepare patient, monitor treadmill and EKG testing, and process exercise data during stress testing procedures, cardiac echosonography stress testing procedures, and nuclear medicine stress testing procedures for the analysis of cardiac function and/or arrythmias.
TILT TABLE TESTING
Must be able to prepare patient, monitor tilt table EKG testing, and process data during tilt table testing procedures for the analysis of cardiac function and/or arrythmias.
