The Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is seeking highly motivated applicants with well-documented expertise in cancer survivorship research to join a growing cancer health disparities research program in a full-time, tenure-track, Associate Professor position.
This search is seeking candidates who conduct lifestyle intervention research with cancer survivors from the time of diagnosis throughout the cancer survivorship trajectory. With the significant disparities prevalent in the Mid-South region, candidates who incorporate the social determinants of health in their program of research are highly preferred. Our organizational culture is highly collaborative, emphasizing multidisciplinary approaches to improving health.
We are especially interested in candidates who will collaborate with other faculty, community members and organizations, healthcare systems, and government agencies to develop, implement and test interventions to improve the health of communities most affected by disparities. The selected candidate will have numerous opportunities to initiate and lead ancillary studies to projects in the Department that include cancer outcomes and physical activity data like the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) and Look AHEAD (a weight-loss study for individuals with diabetes). The faculty member can also take part in recently funded initiatives including the Emotional Well-Being and Economic Burden Research Network, an initiative that will build a national and international multidisciplinary collaborative network to advance the science of emotional well-being and economic burden secondary to illness (including cancer). The incumbent will receive a strong start-up package, state salary support, and protected time to continue his/her research program. He/she will receive a full-time, tenure track faculty position in the Department of Preventive Medicine, College of Medicine. Secondary appointments in other departments are also available.

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D.; DrPH; MD, MPH or equivalent degree. We are interested in candidates with a background in psychology, public health, or other similar scientific disciplines. Essential qualifications include a history past peer-reviewed foundation or federal funding, excellent oral and written communication skills, including relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals and a track record of conducting research in partnership with underserved populations (minority populations, rural residents, and/or those with fewer financial resources)
