Job Description


  • Spring Harbor Hospital is seeking dedicated and passionate Psychiatric Technicians to provide care and emotional support to patients within the Child Psychiatric Unit; contributing to the achievement of quality care and patient outcomes by maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu, assisting with the collection and documentation of data,  and in cooperation with the treatment team members, implements individualized treatment plans.

    The West Child Psychiatric Unit specializes in the care of children. We offer a 12-bed unit designed for the care of children, generally ages from 6-12 years old and as young as 4, who require acute mental health treatment. Typically, these patients are an imminent risk to themselves or others, or are unable to function at a lower level of care due to their psychiatric symptoms.

    As a Psychiatric Technician, you will:  

  • Contribute to the achievement of quality care and positive patient outcomes.  

  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu.  

  • Provide emotional support.  

  • Encourage patient participation in programming.  

  • Facilitate activities and provide supervision.  

  • Reinforce desired behaviors.  

  • Offer redirection and behavioral intervention to maintain a safe environment for all.

    • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):  

    • Education: High School diploma and equivalent experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Social Services preferred.  

    • License/Certifications: N/A  

    • Experience: N/A  

    • Demonstrates a proficiency in all aspects at the entry level position.  

    • Must be able to annually demonstrate competency in seclusion and restraint training.
