The Cancer Center is currently hiring a per diem Registered Nurse (RN) at Pen Bay Medical Center!

The Cancer Care Center at Pen Bay Medical Center (PBMC), is located in Rockport, Maine.  Rockland is located in a truly magnificent area, overlooking the picturesque Maine coastline. The qualified candidate would possess clinical proficiency in the management and safe delivery of medications to an age specific patient centered care program, caring for young adults to geriatric clients.   This is a specialized unit, looking for oncology nurses who have experience caring for patients and families in need of care.

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse will safely administer chemotherapeutic agents to patients in the Cancer Care Center.  Displays clinical proficiency, which includes the management and safe delivery of age-specific patient centered care (encompassing young adult to geriatric clients) through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of overt and covert changes in clinical conditions of oncology patients in accordance with prescribed standards. Provides care and instruction to patients and families from a basis of specialized knowledge in oncology nursing. Plans and assigns work to unit support staff and professional nursing, as needed.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    1. Education:  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred
    2. License/Certifications: Current licensure on the State of Maine Board of Nursing. Current BLS Certification. Oncology Nurse Certification preferred (or attained within three years of hire).
        • Successful completion of --ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Administration Certification Course within 3 months of hire and will remain current every 2 years.
    3. Experience: Two years nursing experience with one year of Chemotherapy/Oncology nursing preferred.
    4. Articulates elements of professional practice and demonstrates:
      • Knowledge of Evidence Based Practice and
      • Patient and Family Centered Care
      • Understanding of teamwork and collaboration
      • Effective verbal/written communication skill
      • Knowledge of process improvement and sound safety strategies
      • Competence with computer applications
    5. Completion of departmental competencies within one month of hire.
