Job Description

Position Summary/Position Responsibilities:

The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics department of Perioperative Services is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assists with surgical procedures; provision of therapeutic, preventive and emergency patient care duties; and preparation, operation and maintenance of routine and complex equipment, instruments and supplies. All duties are done under the direction of a registered professional nurse.

 

Specialties in the Main Operating Room include:

  • Team 1:  Cardiothoracic, Peripheral Vascular, and Transplant (Heart and Lung)
  • Team 2:  Neurosurgery
  • Team 3:  Orthopedics
  • Team 4:  Urology, Gynecology, Transplant (Kidney, Pancreas, and Liver)
  • Team 5:  Otolaryngology, Oral Surgery, Ophthalmology
  • Team 6:  Plastics, General Surgery-Pediatric & Adult

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule: Rotating 8,10, and 12 hour shifts with occasional weekends, additional on-call shifts, and holiday rotation. Orientation following the first week of employment will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. 

Location: John Colloton Pavillion (JCP)

Rotations: Rotating shifts with occasional scheduled weekends, holiday rotation, and additional on-call shifts

Salary: $42,616.08 per year

Available positions include:

Team 1:  Cardiothoracic, Peripheral Vascular, and Transplant (Heart and Lung) - 3 Position - 100%

Team 2 (Neurosurgery)- 1 Position- 100%

Team 4 (Gynecology/Urology/Transplant)- 1 Position- 100%

Team 6 (General Surgery/Plastics/Burn)- 1 Position- 100%

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Satisfactory completion of a vocational or military course in surgical technology, or certification as a surgical technologist.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Preferred candidates will have direct patient care experience in an operating room. Experience working in a health care environment. Able to scrub surgical procedures. Strong written communication skills.
