To identify the professional qualifications and skills required to be assigned to the nursing staff of the Surgical Services Department.
Provides direct, individualized patient care in accordance with Boulder City Hospital, Inc. polices and procedures and the established standards of nursing care and practice in the surgical setting. Promotes restoration of health and achievement of patient health goals through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of psychosocial, physical and general aspects of the delivery of patient care related to the surgical environment. Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiently providing services that exceed customer expectations and improves clinical and financial operations
Duties and Responsibilties:
Must have knowledge and clinical skills to perform the job duties of a Pre-op and PACU nurse.
Pre admission interviews to assess the health care needs of the surgical/GI patient, gather and compile data required for the procedure and takes appropriate action(s) by planning, implementing and evaluating care.
Admits the patient to the Surgical Services Department, assesses the health care needs of the patient and takes appropriate action(s) by planning, implementing and evaluating care. Determines care that is appropriate to the age of the patient with consideration to physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs.
Must be able to make quick assessments of patients and be able to handle emergency situations appropriately.
Admits the patient to the PACU and provides for the health care needs of the patient, takes appropriate action(s) by planning, implementing and evaluating care during the post anesthesia phases. Transfers patient to appropriate settings following the written anesthesia/medical discharge criteria.
Post admission interviews to assess the health care needs and services provided by the hospital and staff. Gather and compile data for further evaluation.
Utilized and assist in the maintenance equipment and the technology required in the Surgical Services Department to implement nursing interventions and patient care insuring safety and adherence to policy and procedure.
Renders advanced nursing care including the administration of medication, IV fluids, blood and blood products.
Responsible for the proper documentation of patient care in the Surgical Services Department.
Adjusts the plan of care according to changes in the patient’s condition.
Sets priorities and organizes work to deliver efficient patient care.
Meets the learning needs of the patient and family through assessment, individualized instruction and reassessment of understanding.
Communicates plan of care to patient, family and other health care members.
Insures the physical readiness of the department for patient care each day.
Assumes charge responsibilities in the absence of the Surgical Services Manager.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Basic computer knowledge and skills
Function in an environment that frequently produces a high level of stress and mental fatigue
Organizes on a continuum due to the changing status of the patients and the environment
Education and Experience Required:
Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing
Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Nevada
Current BLS certification (and re-certify every two years)
Current ACLS (and re-certify every two years)
Skills to maintain effective communication with patients, families and other members of the health care team.
Good command of the English language, both verbal and written
Minimum of one (1) year work experience in Critical Care and (1) year PACU experience.
