Job Description

Under the direction of the office provider or licensed nurse of Fairfield Healthcare Professionals, will assist with preparing patients for exams, administering medications within the medical assistant scope of practice, assisting with procedures, and facilitating general communication with patients. Performs other duties as assigned.  Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance to the established FMC policies, procedures and guidelines. Job Qualifications Education:  Required - High school diploma or GED and Accredited School (AAMA accredited school) – Medical Assistant Program (AMT, CAAHEP, or ABHES Accredited program) Licensure /Certification:    Medical Assistant certification required, or obtained within 6 months of hire.                                                          Current AAMA certification or current AAMA exam eligibility.                                                       Registered Medical Assistant required, or obtained within 6 months of hire.                                                  Phlebotomy certification preferred.   Experience:  Previous experience in a medical office setting preferred. Job Related Skills:  Clinical skills with knowledge of medical procedures, medications; and experience and use                                     of Electronic Medical Records. Job Expectations and Responsibilities: Accurately takes vital signs and gives injections as directed Performs all in-office testing as requested by provider Assists with minor surgical procedures/wound care and dressing, and sterilization of instruments Handles pharmacy-related requests/issues Collects and inputs patient information into patients’ EMR using correct medical terminology Completes referrals, pre-certifications, and prior-authorizations Monitors and orders supplies and medications Maintains patient files Responsible for financial cost related to obtaining certification and renewing of certification Responsible for obtaining and maintaining certification Bi-annual competencies required Physical Capacity Demand Light Work:  Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly Job Considerations Psychological/Mental – prioritizing, problem solving, concentration, memory Physiological/Potential Exposures- electrical /mechanical equipment, infectious disease, blood contact, chemical  Cognitive- Communication and collaboration with other co-workers, providers, other employees, and patients and families; prioritizing and time management                 Environmental- no special considerations                 Protective Equipment- Universal precautions (gloves, gown, mask, glasses)
