Job Description


Maine Medical Center is currently seeking a full-time, licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with experience working in an outpatient mental health setting, to join our Portland Psychiatric Outpatient team!

The position is in our general psychiatry practice, which utilizes family focused, evidence based, treatment models. Experience with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is strongly preferred. MMC’s outpatient psychiatry is an academic setting, and therefore, supervision and teaching of trainees is also required.

Responsibilities of this roll include:

  • Evaluation of psychosocial needs of patients/clients and their families, and provision of diagnostic/preventive and treatment services including individual, family, and group therapy.
  • Complex discharge planning, coordinates aftercare services, and makes referrals for other community services based on the treatment plan.
  • Works in collaboration with other health/mental health professionals and provides consultation to the treatment team regarding patient/family social and environmental needs.
  • Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with institutional and social work/clinical counselor policies. May supervise other social workers, students, or other staff.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Two or more years work experience in a health or mental health setting preferred.
  2. Knowledge of social work theories, techniques and therapies, as used in individual, family and group treatment, as well as principles of social welfare as acquired through completion of a Master's degree in social work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
  3. Licensure by the Maine State Board of Social Work Licensure, LCSW,
  4. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaborative with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team within Acute Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine.
