This position is responsible for managing the operational activities of Polysomnography (PSG) and Electroencephalogram (EEG) services and its personnel including scheduling, fostering a collaborative work environment, ensuring compliance with Federal, State and hospital regulations, policies and procedures. Provides training, educational updates, review of tests performed and counseling of subordinates. Performs all aspects of the PSG & EEG Technologist positions.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
License/Certifications: Licensed by the State of Maine as a Respiratory Therapist. Credentialed as an RRT by the National Board of Respiratory Care in addition to a RPSGT by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists. Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Ability to perform EEG, Continuous EEG and Somatosensory Evoked Potential studies in the lab, at the bedside, and in ICU areas following the guidelines of the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ASET).
Ability to communicate clearly and empathize with patients, thereby eliciting cooperation during the performance of sleep studies and follow up therapeutic interventions.
Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to work closely with other supervisory personnel and staff personnel in a consistently appropriate and professional manner.
Ability to set priorities during high activity or abrupt patient scheduling changes.
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with seriously ill or agitated patients, as well as a variety of personnel throughout the lab and the hospital.
Skill in using PSG & EEG equipment in line with safety, infection control and quality protocols.
