The Lab Information Systems Analyst performs the technical duties necessary to ensure the efficient operation of computer applications used by the Department of Laboratory Medicine. This includes the maintenance of interfaces to a wide variety of clients and applications, the maintenance of lab tests and lab orderables within the Epic EMR, and the design, build, and testing of the Epic Beaker Application and all accompanying lab systems. This position must have an in-depth understanding of workflows, policies and procedures, patient care and clinical business objectives, regulatory requirements and industry best practices for patient care. Responsibilities also include the implementation and integration of various lab equipment through the Data Innovations Integration Engine, secondary support of Rover, and blood product administration.
Additional duties include the evaluation of requests and design consultation for new or modified applications, solutions, reports and interfaces to determine feasibility and compatibility with current systems and workflows. Assists in the development of project plans and acts as project manager for various laboratory implementation projects, following through on communications with stakeholders and adherence to deadlines for each project milestone. Responsible for the maintenance of error work queues in Epic, including the research and resolution of issues in data coming from external lab systems.
Qualifications: Requires certification in Epic Beaker. Requires traveling to gain additional certifications from Epic in Orders Transmittal and/or Pathologist Builder and Beaker Curriculum. For additional certifications, must pass Epic examinations and complete all training projects to satisfactory level in relevant areas. Bachelor's degree in one of the following: Information Technology, Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or equivalent work experience in Information Technology or Laboratory Medicine, including certification in Epic Beaker. Two years of experience required. Excellent communication and presentation skills: (1) Strong problem solving skills and a collaborative approach to meeting clients’ needs; (2) Highly self-motivated and self-directed; (3) Ability to execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with scheduled deadlines; (4) Analytical skills with the ability to develop solutions derived from researching documentation; and (5) Proficient in MS-Office applications.
