Job Description

: -Provides primary oversight over designated clinical programs and provides leadership through program design, implementation, and evaluation.   Education: - Must have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.   Experience: -Must have six (6) years of professional nursing experience   Equivalent Experience: - May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.   Certification/Registration/Licensure: -Must have current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license. -Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following: American Heart Association American Red Cross Military Training Network. -For Trauma Program: Must have Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification or Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Must also be a Certified Adult/Adolescent - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (CA-SANE) or a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner - Adult/Adolescent (SANE-A) -For Stroke Program: N/A -For Sepsis Program: N/A   Skills or Special Abilities: - Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards. - Applicants must pass Medication Examination prior to hospital orientation. Current Parkland employees requesting reassignment to role must have current Medication Examination on file. - Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in working with physicians, nursing and ancillary healthcare team members. - Must demonstrate knowledge of PHHS policies and procedures, nursing standards of practice and be capable of staff leadership. - Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued care. Responsibilities: -Coordinates the selection, training and supervision of nursing staff. -Analyzes patient needs and staff capabilities, scheduling staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to internal and external customers. -Serves as a role model and resource, motivates, guides and evaluates assigned staff. -Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge. -Responds to patient's worsening condition, as needed, by assessing the patient, performing interventions, and communicating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure appropriate patient care. -Completes quality forms during and after an activation event of the Clinical Team, in order to identify potential issues and provide feedback to management and healthcare staff. -Responsible for data entry, spreadsheet analysis, report writing, and managing specific databases to ensure that activities and records are accurate and complete. -Responsible for coordinating daily nursing activities to promote high quality patient services, nursing care and outcomes. -Assesses individual patient needs, develops staffing and plan of care in collaboration with team members, directs and performs clinical nursing skills directly related to patient care. -Serves as an educational resource for patients, families and Parkland staff. -Evaluates patient needs and takes initiative in providing quality services such as language interpretation and/or arranging care. -Arranges and performs inservices. -Takes responsibility for having the necessary equipment and supplies and maintains an orderly, safe and clean environment. -Communicates with physicians, nursing and ancillary staff to coordinate activities and ensure effective, efficient procedures and care. -Delegates tasks in response to directives in a timely and appropriate manner and demonstrates responsiveness to innovation and cross-discipline expertise. -Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes and flows for the department and implements appropriate changes to improve work effectiveness, productivity and efficiency that support the overall goals of Parkland. -Maintains and implements knowledge of all rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws and guidelines that impact the patient's surgical nursing care. -Reviews patient chart, consent forms, labs, allergies and other information, taking appropriate action. -Revises or develops policies/procedures such as the Core Competency manual to ensure that staff activities are in compliance with law and policy. -Responsible for a collaborative work team effort to ensure positive working relationships. -Communicates effectively with healthcare staff. -Maintains good communication with management and other hospital employees. -Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in nursing by attending seminars or workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations and maintaining Texas RN licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. -Assists in monitoring the annual operating budget by developing an annual equipment and supplies budget request and ordering approved supplies. -Stays informed on budget amounts and suggests or implements fiscal efficiency measures to ensure that the department has the necessary funds to carry out established goals and objectives. -Participates in research and publication activities to promote professional achievement, knowledge and application of progressive, quality care. -Serves on multidisciplinary committees and attends staff meetings as selected and assigned.
