The responsibilities of the Unit Clerk are to provides assistance to the nursing staff by performing clerical and record keeping functions in a hospital with patients ranging in age from 18 years to geriatric experiencing medically complex conditions, general medical-surgical conditions, with rehabilitation and/or wound care needs.
The Unit Clerk duties include:
Demonstrates proper performance of skills reflected and validated by the Unit Clerk competency checklist.
Prioritizes and works independently in organizing the nursing unit station, keeping station clean and presentable.
Ensures call lights and telephone are answered in a timely manner and ensures messages are recorded and delivered in a timely manner.
Serves as liaison between physicians, staff members and other departments.
Answers telephone in a courteous manner exchanging information in an appropriate manner which requires good oral and written communication skills.
Properly plans/organizes work for assigned shift to properly utilize time, resources, manpower and supplies to ensure patient receives appropriate quality care.
Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
Adheres to CHG policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience desirable but not required.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must maintain current CPR certification throughout employment.
