Maintains the Performance Standards and Guidelines of the Anesthesia Practice.Provides for the delivery of appropriate administration of anesthesia care of the infant through geriatric patient, utilizing the anesthesia process.Provides professional assessment, documentation, anesthesia administration, observation, and resuscitation for the peri-operative patient until control of vital functions is regained.CRNA’s are licensed as advanced practice registered nurses and are certified nationally in the specialty of anesthesia.They are educated to induce, maintain, reverse general anesthesia, provide intravenous sedation of MAC anesthesia, start arterial lines, external jugular vein central lines, provide intravenous regional anesthesia, monitor and perform regional anesthesia, provide emergency respiratory care and intubations in ICU, PACU, Emergency Department, and any other patient care areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pre-anesthesia assessment of patients for emergency, non-emergent, operative or invasive procedures.
A pre-induction patient assessment is performed before the operative or invasive procedure(s).
Administers general anesthesia including intubations, IV regional, monitor regional and intravenous MAC anesthesia.May administer regional anesthesia at clinical facility where privileges have been approved.
Maintain a complete and legible anesthesia record.
Provides professional observation and resuscitative care until patient has regained control of vital functions.
Escorts patient to PACU/ICU and reports all pertinent information to Nurse.
Keeps accurate supply and drug charges for clinical facility.
Ensures all documents are correct to ensure proper billing of Anesthesia Services.
Checks cleanliness and working conditions of equipment to be used.
Mixes and labels necessary drips, medications, and syringes.
Post anesthesia assessment of patient.
CRNA’s are required to maintain a current RN and Advanced Practice License in the state of Louisiana.
BLS/ACLS certification required.
The CRNA must be credentialed by the Clinical Facility Allied Health.
CRNA’s have required mandatory continuing education (CE) for re-certification every two years.The re-certification program is administered by the Council on Re-Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.The Council requires a minimum of forty (40) contact hours from approved CE programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, and move patients.Should have excellent or correctable vision, hearing, and speech.
