Under the direction of the Nursing Practice Administrator, and as an integral member of the Nursing Center of Excellence, the Director of Nursing Practice promotes exemplary professional practice that is evidence-based and is characterized by collaborative professional governance. This individual, along with the entity(ies) of Chief Nursing Officer and Nursing Practice Administrator, supports the Carilion Clinic professional practice model through the implementation of the Carilion Clinic Nursing Strategic Plan and the annual Nursing fiscal year goals to standardized nursing practice across the organization. Special emphasis is placed on the provision of patient and family-centric care using standards of nursing practice afforded by nursing professional organizations and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. This role is responsible for the dissemination and implementation of the Professional Nursing Practice Model and principles for nursing excellence. Assists with the ANCC Magnet® and Pathway to Excellence® Recognition Programs.
Work is accomplished without considerable direction. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations and/or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting method, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results consistent with broadly defined policies and practices. Manages department budget and staff, including all aspects of financial planning/accountability and recruitment, retention and performance management. Routine interactions and relationships at all levels within Carilion. Frequently interacts one-on-one, makes group presentations, leads teams, multi-service and organization projects. Frequently must adapt and respond to organization needs, current responsibilities and changing priorities.

Education: Master’s Degree in related field preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
Experience: Five years of extensive and progressive administration experience.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia
Other Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrates excellent problem solving, interpersonal, communication, priority setting and work competency skills. Promotes a respectful, inclusive culture of service excellence. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment. Business acumen and leadership skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, internal departments and external agencies. Working knowledge of various computer software applications. Must be detailed oriented, able to synthesize complex data and utilizes sound clinical judgement based on years of leadership and clinical experience. Savvy with crucial conversations. Intuitive and autonomous, anticipates nursing practice needs.
