Job Description

: The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the adult sexual-assault patient. The SANE exam may include a medical forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, photographic documentation, and referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support in and participation in legal proceedings. Major Responsibilities Triages patient to determine if medical exam is needed before forensic exam Performs and documents sexual assault and forensic interview accurately Performs a complete medical forensic evaluation to include: Head to toe assessments for trauma, detailed genital/anal examination Forensic specimen collection and supportive documentation Photo documentation of bodily and genital-anal injuries Assesses for mandatory reporting status and reports when appropriate Maintains chain of custody and adhere to evidence guidelines Ensures patient/medical record confidentiality at all times Administers prophylactic medications and emergency contraception Coordinates referrals for appropriate follow-up care as needed Testifies as a fact witness to any/and all cases performed as a SANE Responds to SANE group communication when a sexual assault nurse examiner is needed. Maintains clinical expertise as a SANE: Participates in monthly online SANE case review organized by Harborview Medical Center (must participate in at least 8 online case reviews per year) Participates in a weekend training session at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA Completes the initial and on-going preceptor requirements including participation in initial 3-day didactic training and annual 1-day refresher course Attends quarterly joint training with Dove House Debriefs as necessary to maintain emotional wellness Education and/or Experience Current WA state RN license in good standing Current CPR/BLS (healthcare provider) required At least 1 year nursing experience required, experience in ED, Public Health, L&D, or psychiatric nursing preferred Schedule Per diem employees may work 0-16 hours per week. Two position are available.
