The Critical Care Unit Technician Paramedic is to assist with patient care ranging from minor injury and illness to initiating advanced life support measures within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and CCU provider.
Integral member of the Critical Care Department performing specific technical tasks as outlined on the technician’s skills competency check list
Accurately documents care provided in patient medical record
Assists with secretarial duties
Stocks patient supplies and assists with inventory
Monitors equipment to ensure working order and cleanliness. Enters work orders for broken equipment
Cleans patient rooms and equipment between patients
Perform IV/IO access
Operate mechanical IV Pumps
Operate Defibrillator to include cardioversion and cardiac pacing
Management of non-displaced gastrostomy tube
Invasive hemodynamic monitoring
Administer ACLS and PALS medications
Other medications ordered by provider per our Advanced Technician Program policy.
Other duties as assigned under scope of practice of Virginia as a Paramedic
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
EMTs – 1 year of current documented field experience or one year current healthcare experience
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
Basic patient assessment skills including primary survey
Basic knowledge of primary interventions
Demonstrated effective communication skills
High level of compassion, desire to help others, and self-confidence
Basic computer knowledge with demonstrated administrative skills
