Job Description

Provides intra-facility transports of mental health patients using a secured car.  Responsible for documentation of patient transports.  Participation in educational programs and in-services as well as performance of miscellaneous related duties.  Effectively interacts with the patient, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining high standards of professional care.  Provides high quality patient-centered transportation services to the following customer populations: Public; Patients; Allied emergency personnel; Students doing field internships.  Secure Car Drivers will be expected to work as Constant Observers in the patient’s room in between transports.   Constant Observers provide very basic patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse.  A competent person who assumes responsibility for observation of patient activities to maintain patient safety.  Provides reassurance to patients and family members. Works independently as well as functioning as a team member. The observation and care activities are individualized for each patient at the direction of medical / nursing staff. The Constant Observer uses the ability to react quickly and notifies nursing staff of unsafe, changing, or unusual conditions.  This position is an important component of the continuum of care as it is provided to maintain the safety and protect the well-being of patients at-risk for injury to self.  Provides high quality care to the following patient populations: Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, Telemetry, and Psychiatric Issues. Job Details: Required Skills, Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Iowa chauffeur license or Illinois equivalent Desired Skills, Education and Experience Experience in EMS at any level, preferred Previous healthcare experience Previous clinical experience Previous direct patient care experience Ability to communicate effectively with patients Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff Basic computer operation skills Basic Microsoft windows experience Efficiency in multitasking Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations Additional Job Details: Scheduled hours: Variable, as needed
