Summary

The Center of Excellence in Autism and Developmental Disorders is looking for passionate and dedicated Float Educational Technician III.

Under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher supported by the Clinical Director of the Center for Autism and Development Disorder (CADD) and Spring Harbor Academy (SHA), the Educational Technician III will float between the two facilities and work as a member of the educational team of these year-round programs to provide designated instructional services to meet the required academic, behavioral and daily living needs of our students 

The Center of Excellence is a full-service integrated treatment, research, and training center to meet the needs of Maine families, generate new treatment models, and advance autism science for the benefit of all. New and expanded services include child and adult outpatient clinics, preschool, K-12 day treatment and early intervention in-home services.

*Up to $2,000 SIGN-ON BONUS and $2,000 a year Tuition Reimbursement*

*Current MaineHealth employees not eligible for the sign on bonus. Must be separated from MaineHealth system for 3 months to be eligible. Tuition Reimbursement is available to employees after 6 months of employment.

The Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders Preschool is a year-round, private, special-purpose preschool for children ages 3 to 5 with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities. The program utilizes a multi-disciplinary treatment team including BCBAs, SLPs, OTs, Special Educators and Educational Technicians. Children receive individualized instruction in communication, play, socialization, self-care, cognitive development, and motor skills utilizing the principles of applied behavior analysis.

Spring Harbor Academy is a special-purpose private school which provides individualized educational services and behavioral treatment to children admitted to the Developmental Disorders Unit at Spring Harbor Hospital.  Located within the hospital, Spring Harbor Academy supports the achievement of academic, behavioral, and functional skills in accordance with each child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP).  Services are provided through a multi-disciplinary treatment team including Special Educators, Educational Technicians, BCBAs, SLPs, OTs, PTs, and medical providers.  

The Ed Tech III will provide individualized instruction and behavioral support to achieve communication, play, socialization, self-care, cognitive, behavior and motor goals of students in accordance with the Individual Treatment Plan, IEP and/or Positive Behavior Support Plan utilizing the tools of applied behavior analysis (ABA).

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Post high school study in educationally related field preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: Certification as an Educational Technician III from the Maine Department of Education (minimum of 90 credits in approved study). Certification as School-Based Behavioral Health Professional preferred (may be provided upon hire).
  3. Experience: 2+ years of experience working with children or youth with developmental disorders, mental health disorders, and/or behavior problems in school, hospital, or residential setting.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide education and care to students through the formative years (ages 5 – 20) with consideration of variable cognitive abilities, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
  5. Willing and able to learn and appropriately apply physical restraint for the purpose of maintaining the safety of students and others.
