Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
- The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) is responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures.
- The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) coordinates and participates in a variety of complex technical tasks in the performance of laboratory tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Qualifications
- EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- MLT requires:
- Associate's degree in a relevant science preferred.
- MLT (ASCP) or equivalent registration or has completed a technician training program in a school accredited/approved by HHS, or MLT eligible under Medicare laboratory regulations.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- MLS requires:
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology.
- Iowa Med Tech licensure (ASCP), either by examination or by reciprocity.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- MLT requires:
- Four months' clinical laboratory internship preferred.
- Demonstrated clinical competence in relevant area of laboratory practice.
- Must have the ability to demonstrate self-confidence and positive attitude toward self and others. Maintains commitment and enthusiasm to goal achievement.
- MLS requires:
- Demonstrated competence in the area of laboratory procedures.
- Significant skill and knowledge in IS applications/automated technology is desired.
Schedule
M-F, 11am-7:30pm, weekend rotation
