UW Medicine (UWM) has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic TRANSFER CENTER DIRECTOR to manage the UW MEDICINE TRANSFER CENTER. The UWM Transfer Center provides a 24/7 single point of access for patients needing emergent and urgent transfer into UWM hospitals.  Annually, the Transfer Center coordinates approximately 5,000 specialty consults and over 8,000 patient transfers from hospitals throughout the Pacific Northwest (WWAMI region) into UWM hospitals. Transfers into UWM are streamlined through a multidisciplinary process that engages registered nurses, intake coordinators, nursing supervisors, and physicians throughout UWM’s four hospital campuses.

UW Medicine is recruiting for a dynamic and tenacious leader who will inspire and engage staff as the Transfer Center evolves its scope and impact.  The ideal candidate will have strong management skills, demonstrated leadership experience, and a track record of making operational improvements.  This position will manage a talented team and collaborate with clinical and administrative leadership across UW Medicine and the WWAMI region to increase transfer volumes, improve patient and stakeholder satisfaction, and improve Transfer Center operations.   UWM is seeking candidates who are passionate about employee engagement, patient experience and service excellence, process improvement, quality and patient safety, and health equity and who have strong financial, operational, analytic, and implementation skills. 

The Transfer Center Director, UW Medicine, will work closely with leadership and Transfer Center governance and oversight committees to develop a strategic plan and road map for improving how patients transfer into, between, and out of the UW Medicine health system. This position will participate in planning for a centralized UWM capacity management center and implement tactics to direct patients to the setting that best meets their clinical needs.

This Director must possess excellent verbal and written communication, a customer service orientation, and presentation skill while maintaining a high level of professionalism. This position requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making, as well as excellent organizational, analytic and critical thinking skills.




Bachelor's degree in Nursing, business, healthcare administration, or related healthcare field.

  • 6 to 8 years’ experience:
  • Comprehensive set of technical, financial, business, project management, and resource management skills.
  • Experience with MS Office suite of products (including high proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience in developing content for and presenting in executive level meetings.
  • Organization Skills - proactively prioritizes, anticipates needs and effectively manages resources and budgets
  • Communication Skills - communicates clearly, persuasively and concisely both in verbal and written communication
  • Customer Orientation - establishes and maintains long-term relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations with internal and external customers, vendors, and stakeholders
  •  Resilient, agile, and ability to work in a dynamic environment and under pressure An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements 


  • Masters degree in business, healthcare or related field.
  • Clinical experience working in an acute care setting.
  • 3+ years academic healthcare experience working directly with SOM departments and their leadership
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

  • Analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Able to display and mine data to help make strategic & operational decisions
