Job Description
This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing coordination activities related to patient scheduling and performing tasks and support functions under the supervison of a licensed nurse.
Job Duties
Receives and handles telephone communications accurately and timely
Coordinates scheduling patients.
Completes data entry from procedural records in an accurate and timely fashion
Implements changes and assists with revisions on patient orders and requests
Organizes and prioritizes daily work effectively
Receives and directs visitors within the department as indicated. N/A
Navigates the electronic medical record efficiently, orders procedures and locates documentation as necessary
Promotes a positive and professional image, collaborates with health team including physicians, nurses, and discharge patients.
Limited assistance during patient transfers. N/A
Department Specific Duties
Utilizes computer systems to run requested reports for physicians, administration and quality initiatives
Posts charges for the department
Assists in monitoring KanBan inventory management for department
Monitors prior authorization for procedures three days in advance
Reviews and updates procedural schedules daily
Responds to real/potential problems based on urgency related to procedural schedule
Refers conflicts and procedural questions to the Manager or Supervisor
Prepares charts 2-3 days in advance

Professional Experience
Two years of health care and/or secretarial experience preferred
Strong computer skills required
Education
High School Diploma required
Medical Assisting Diploma, Associate of Applied Science Degree preferred
Medical Terminology strongly preferred
Licensure, Certification, Registration
American Heart Assocation Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required within 6 months of hire.
