Performs as a member of the Nursing Team in a wide variety of patient care activities in accordance with established policies, practices and procedures.
Assists physicians with tests performed throughout the surgical and diagnostic procedures.
Prepares rooms and sets up equipment as required.
Takes vital signs and positions patient on table.
Assists patients in recovery room as needed. Prepares rooms for the next procedure.
Maintains and cleans equipment and supplies used for endoscopic procedures.
Maintains documentation of environmental and equipment monitoring required by the State and/or other regulatory agencies.
Assists in providing nursing care to patients, involved in assessment of physical, psychological and social dimensions of patients, assists in planning and directly participates in implementing a formal plan of care for patients. Implements clinical and technical aspects of care and nursing orders in accordance with established policies and procedures. Intervenes with proper technique, procedure and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patients. Administers prescribed medications and documents same. Functions within limits of Nursing Statutes and Regulations of the Commonwealth and Hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures. Assists in evaluating nursing care provided.
Administers medication as directed after successfully completing a Pharmacology examination through Cape Cod Hospital. After successful completion of I.V. course, will be expected to initiate and monitor IV’s. May not administer experimental or chemotherapeutic drugs. Provides direct care to patients with complicated nursing problems and assists with care of patients in critical condition. Performs treatments or assists in treatments and procedures, in accordance with Nursing policies and procedures. Successful completion of institutional certification required for procedures as designated in the procedure. Observes patients and records information according to prescribed Hospital policy and procedure. Keeps Nurse Managers/designee informed regarding changing conditions of patients and/or other pertinent observations.
Assists in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient and family instruction. Provides support for emotional needs.
Teaches appropriate self care.
Advocates use of community resources.
Develops and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and hospital personnel.
Keeps patient information confidential and respects patient’s right to privacy. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients and co-workers.
Transcribes written physician orders.
Enters verified orders when competency documented by Nurse Manager.
Transports patients to other units and/or departments.
Participates in identification of the important aspects of care for each patient, the identification of indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care and the evaluation of quality of and appropriateness of care.
Assists in and performs unit assignments, as required.
Participates in in-service programs for self-enrichment to maintain the high quality of nursing practice, and seeks growth through other education opportunities.
Performs other work-related duties as requested/directed

Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing.
Currently licensed as a Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Good physical and mental health, able to work under pressure and relate to patients, hospital staff and visitors.
Current Basic Life Support Certification.
