Provides skilled assistance to surgeons during surgery. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the ages of the patient/clients served. Demonstrates the ability to provide care according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Performs other duties as deemed competent.
Anticipating needs of surgeons for supplies/equipment during procedures
Creating/maintaining a sterile field
Correctly performing sponge, needle and instrument counts
Transferring medications and solutions to surgeons during procedure
Education: High School graduate. Graduate of a surgical technician program or a minimum of two years equivalent experience as a surgical technician
Experience: Previous experience desirable
Other: Considerable skill and knowledge of surgical instrumentation, proper sterile technique and knowledge of surgical procedures required. Current CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires range of motion within functional limits. Occasionally pushing 40 pounds, pulling 80 pounds, Lifting 35 pounds from floor to eye level. Manual/finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Functional vision and hearing. Frequent standing/walking, bending, stooping/stretching.
