To perform diversified coding and auditing of coded medical records related to ICD-10-CM, PCS and CPT coding including infusion and injection charging. Train new coding staff on department specific procedures and coordinate education of ICD-10. Promotes teamwork and acts as a liaison with coders and CDI specialists through JATA team and education. Development of new procedures related to coding and implementation of systems that impact coding. Research coding guidelines that help with understanding claim edits and denials by RAC or other payers for coding reasons. Serve as a backup for coding and abstracting of all types of records as needed.
Qualifications: Bachelor degree in Health Information Management or Associate degree in Health Information Technology required. Applicant must be certified as an RHIA, RHIT,or CSS (or obtain within 2 years) and have at least 5 years of experience in a health information/medical records environment related to coding. Training in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding conventions. EPIC experience preferred. Familiarity with hospital medical records and regulatory requirement for content a plus for this job. Excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent organizational skills. Ability to adapt to change and handle multiple tasks in a complex environment. Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications to create/maintain spreadsheets, databases, and word processing functions.
