The Registered Nurse plans, coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units. Ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit’s standards of care. Demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.
Applies the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to promote the ultimate resolution of the patient's nursing problems. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs of patients, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with ED physicians regarding changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in conditions or response to treatment. Assumes charge nurse duties in the absence of the charge nurse.
Formal Education and Certifications
Current professional licensure in the State of West Virginia, or multistate license as a Registered Nurse
CPR (if CPR is not current on hire or will expire during department orientation, staff must attend the next available CPR class after hire)
Crisis Intervention Class
Face-to-Face RN Training for Restraints
Knowledge and Experience
Basic computer skills
Current knowledge and skills appropriate to the age/type of patient population served, or obtained within probationary period
Knowledgeable and sensitive to patients’ rights in the delivery of care
