The Medical Technologist I works with moderate to minimal supervision under the Lab Section Supervisor/Site Supervisor and performs with comprehensive knowledge of techniques and theory, clinical testing of blood, urine, and body fluids in assigned laboratory areas. Prepares reagents and supplies needed for laboratory determinations; procures blood specimens from patients of all ages; accessions and records all work performed; demonstrates adequate understanding of computer system; participates in Quality control programs; complies with accepted safety and infection control policies, “troubleshoots” laboratory instruments; assists in developing and adopting new methodology; checks all work performed; instructs new employees and students; demonstrates a deep commitment to quality and deep respect for the dignity and value of all persons and patients we serve.
Registered as a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician. Must have blood bank, hematology and chemistry experience. Associate Degree in Science or Medical Technology. One year approved MT school, and/or one year experience in an approved lab. Knowledge of computer helpful. Must have good communication and customer service skills, a professional attitude, and well-developed organizational skills. Must be able to handle high volumes and emergency situations with interruption of workflow.
