Job Description

The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position. Job Summary: The Pharmacy Analyst analyzes and monitors the purchasing, cost, and reimbursement for drugs used at Marshall Medical Centers, including, but not limited to the hospitals, Cancer Center, and the Retail Center. This position will work to assure compliance with 340B guidelines regarding purchasing and billing of drugs, as well as optimization of the 340B program and any other programs with an information technology and/or financial element. Reports To: Director of Pharmacy Supervises: None Some of the many skills performed A. The Pharmacy Financial Analyst professional responsibility within their scope of practice: Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality Requires regular and prompt attendance Works the assigned schedule including overtime and special call as required B. The Pharmacy Financial Analyst department responsibilities: Requires minimal supervision to safely perform essential functions Utilizes proper body mechanics when: moving equipment and/or supplies that are necessary to perform essential functions Reports broken or malfunctioning equipment to department head Operates personal computer to complete assigned tasks Performs special projects and other work as assigned by management C. Analytics Understands 340B Penny Buy, and implements and maintains a system for identification of opportunities of optimization Understands WAC anomaly and implements and maintains a system for identification of opportunities of optimization Considers WAC purchases and analyzes the reason for these purchases to identify improvement opportunities Follows the Biosimilar market to identify potential cost savings associated with these medications and analyzes cost/reimbursement for potential conversions Identifies opportunities for expansion of the analytic role Understands, analyzes and can produce reports from the CPSI, McKesson, Retail, and Macrohelix Purchasing System. Work with outside entities to understand potential savings and purchasing strategies D. Contributes to the effective operation of the department Organizes and prioritizes work assignments Maintains logs, records and other required documentation to quantify gains/savings/cost avoidance associated with the position Demonstrates good verbal and written communication Keeps work areas clean, neat and well-organized. Keeps equipment clean E. Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department and maintains programs related to purchasing Performs and/or assists in audits as necessary to assure compliance with 340B rules and regulations Maintain and update Macrohelix (340B), CPSI, and Omnicell as needed for implementation of improvement opportunities Conducts quality monitors, collects data and completes documentation, as assigned. F. Maintains competency required for current job title/position Complete 340B education as needed to fully understand the program and how it relates to the system’s various parts Participates in orientation, education and training programs. Reviews literature and other materials as assigned Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements G. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience/Skills Requirements EDUCATION: â—High School Graduate or Equivalent â— BS/BA in Business Admin, Accounting, or hard Science Preferred, but not required LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Registration/Certification with the Alabama Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician preferred SKILLS: â—High level computer skills required, including high level understanding of data manipulation â—Strong MS Excel skills required, MS Access preferred; Must be a self-starter, looking for ways to improve process, willing to critically evaluate processes to identify areas for improvement â— Information Technology background preferred â— 340B program familiarity preferred â— Financial Background preferred
