The school nurse(s) at the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics provide(s) medical care for students between the ages of 15 and 18 from across the state in a residential educational setting. Students receive skilled nursing care through contracted services seven days a week when school is in session. This includes assessing and identifying medical concerns and injuries, responding appropriately, working with students' families to secure medical information required by DHEC and the school to ensure quality care; making referrals to local health care providers including CPRMC, monitoring and administering medication in accordance with doctors' orders, thoroughly charting all interactions, and providing appropriate reports between shifts. School nurses also work closely with GSSM faculty and staff toward the welfare of students, and with parents regarding the medical needs of their children. Applicants must be able to work independently within the context of the school's outlined policies, processes, and protocols.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current South Carolina licensure, RN (preferred) or LPN. Applicants should have a minimum three to five years of nursing experience. BLS required, ACLS preferred.
