Salem Medical Center is looking for full time (36 hours per week) Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to join our Med Surg unit!
Shifts: Days 7:00am-7:30pm and Nights 7:00pm-7:30am
The LPN is responsible for planning, supervising and evaluating the nursing care of patients and for correlating the nursing process, the medical plan of care and policies.
Duties of the LPN include:
-Directs patient care including vital signs, personal hygiene, dietary needs and ambulation.
-Assesses critical changes and notifies the Supervising RN or physician appropriately.
-Accurately charts with attention to medical/legal implications.
-Accurately adminsters and monitors IV therapy as per SMC policy.
-Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner. Data collection includes, but is not limited to: (a) Observation about the condition or change in condition of the client, (b) Sign and symptoms of deviation from normal health status
-Participates in the development of a strategy of care in consultation with other nursing personnel. (a) Participation in the development of a strategy of care includes contributing to the identification of priorities, assisting with the development of realistic and measurable goals and selecting nursing interventions, (b) May contribute to the selection of nursing interventions which include measures to maintain comfort, support human functions and responses, maintain environment conducive to well-being and reinforce health teaching and counseling.
-Records and carries out physician's orders within scope of practice.
-Interacts with all hospital departments to coordinate patient care.
-Follows SMC policy regarding narcotic usage and administration including procedure for narcotic waste and documentation.
-Provides a safe and secure environment for the patients. Assures equipment is working properly, keeps rooms clean and uses proper infection control procedures.
-Documents and communicates nursing intervention effectiveness, patient responses and complications to peers and physicians.
-Rounding: hourly rounding, rounding on admissions and transfers to the unit, follow-up rounding, discharge, etc.
-Performs all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
