Job Description

Assists the nursing staff and physicians by maintaining an efficient operation with the goal of delivering optimal patient care.                 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent required 2. Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program 3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.         PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Registration or Certification EXPERIENCE: 1. One-year experience as a Medical Assistant or patient care       CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned. 1. Assists nursing staff and physicians by performing various duties related to patient care. 2. Does simple data collection and tabulation for statistical purposes. 3. Coordinates pre and post-visit patient flow. 4. Receives patient phone calls, documents information and reports to physicians. Calls patients with instructions from physician. 5. Accurately files all patient chart preparation paperwork including X-rays, EKGs, lab results, etc. 6. Completes accurate logging and filing systems to track all patient records and prevent loss. 7. Obtains lab and test results for physicians 8. Utilizes Merlin system for obtaining transcribed results. 9. Schedules as needed in Merlin 10. Obtains radiology results from Radiant. 11. Obtains and documents patient data such as age, height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry and documents according to policy.  Reports abnormal findings to RN. 12. May perform adult phlebotomy as needed. 13. Obtains patient specimens as indicated. 14. Administers injections and medications prescribed by physicians 15. Contacts outside facilities and ancillary departments for recent patient testing results. 16. Faxes release of information consent to appropriate facility. 17. Delivers the faxed test results to the physician for review. 18. Verifies completion of charts and phone calls for patients scheduled the next day. 19. Applies specialized step-by-step knowledge of entire procedures to assist as a member of the medical team or to personally conduct procedures. 20. Takes corrective actions independently or as a team member.   21. Assists with procedures performed by a physician   22. Performs unit responsibilities to include: maintaining procedure records 23. Documents radiology tests ordered. 24. Explains post-procedure and post-visit instructions to patients and significant others accompanying the patient.  Observes patients for adverse effects and reports to RN prior to transfer or departure from the unit. 25. Responsible for coordination, maintenance, and ordering supplies, instruments and equipment. 26. Maintains a safe, clean, sanitary environment. Cleans patient areas before and after use. 27. Monitors use and working condition of equipment. 28. Follows infection control guidelines to ensure unit safety and prevention of cross-contamination. 29. Assists with processing of instruments between cases (was and sterilize by heat or high-level disinfection). 30. Assists with preparation of various cleaning and lubricating solutions used in decontamination of instruments, equipment and rooms.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have ability to lift up to 40 pounds. 3. May need to transport a patient on a stretcher or wheelchair. 4. Position requires contact with patients, nursing staff, physicians and other ancillary personnel both within and outside of the working area. 2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. 3.
