Functions within the sterile field and provides reliable assistance to the members of the team including nurses, manager, and physician. Prepares the operating room for surgery and assists during surgical procedures. Sets up instruments for and assists during vaginal deliveries, suction curettage, and consults. Obtains necessary equipment and supplies and stocks rooms. Assists with the after care of equipment and supplies. Accountable to the unit charge nurse and Director. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
Performance expectations will be covered the orientation and preceptor phases of your orientation to your job.
Demonstrate technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of unit equipment including but not limited to electro cautery, suctions, surgical lights, delivery room lights, OR and vaginal delivery tables, instrument decontaminating washers, and autoclaves.
Demonstrate the aptitude for safely positioning patients using stirrups, OR table straps.
Demonstrate the ability to tolerate high and low temperature ranges set to accommodate desired patient outcomes.
Demonstrate the ability to safely scrub, gown and glove; maintain the sterile field; retract and pass instruments as needed.
Demonstrate the aptitude for anticipating the needs of the patient, physician and staff members in emergency situations.
Education: Diploma or GED required. Associate Degree or Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
Work Experience: Completion of an approved operating room technician course.
Certification/Licensure: BLS certification required.
