Participates with the laboratory Director and managers in overall laboratory management. Maintain specific Department in efficient and effective operation. Reports to Director and laboratory managers. Oversees Histology and Cytology staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs laboratory scheduling, organizes workload, assigns duties to laboratory staff shares bench duties
Supports and participates in Customer Relations and marketing efforts
Maintains department in accordance with various regulatory agencies
Maintains current procedure manual(s) and reviews annually
Implements and oversees and performs quality control
Orients new personnel to the department
Implements and oversees and performs preventive maintenance
Participates in the formation of the annual budget and monitors compliance on an ongoing basis
Participates in the evaluation of new equipment for prospective purchase
Participates in hiring, evaluation, and discipline of employees
Supports administrative and laboratory policy and procedures
Serves on committees / task forces as required
Assess and participates in the formation of annual goals
Consults with pathologists to institute new procedures
Embeds, cuts, mounts and stains sections from surgical and autopsy specimens
Assists pathologists with surgical and frozen specimens
Promotes a clean and safer environment of care, utilizing the SAFE error prevention habits.
Associates degree in clinical laboratory science, life sciences, or related field from an accredited college or university. Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least 3 years of Histology experience and two years of Supervisory experience required. HTL (ASCP) certified through ASCP preferred.
