The Laboratory Assistant also performs clerical functions, including giving results to providers, distribution of reports, charges, credits and supply ordering within the laboratory.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs phlebotomies including venipunctures, infant heel sticks, finger sticks and therapeutic phlebotomies and completes proper documentation Processes specimens and results from reference lab Collects other specimens including:  blood cultures, blood alcohol and urine drug screens Processes and documents specimens from local clinics for in-house testing and prepares specimens for courier Maintains the laboratory and the outpatient drawing area in a neat, clean and orderly manner Keeps lab glassware clean and restocked Restocks, receives and inventories laboratory blood supplies Performs computer entry of patient orders and demographics for outpatients and referral Distributes reports and gives verbal reports on completed tests   SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Assists with filing and billing Provides back-up support for clerical functions and report distribution within the laboratory Other job duties as assigned by supervisor Plates microbiological specimens Assists training new employees and students Enters patient charges Assists tech with Blood Bank inventory, orders, returns and receipt as needed Orders blood products as directed Reconciles bills from reference labs Fills orders from outside clinics and nursing stations   EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent required Washington State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy certification required; as a condition of employment, application for MA-Phlebotomist Certification must be submitted to DOH within 90 days of hire. BLS Certification required Washington State AIDS Education curriculum required Must stay current in knowledge base, certifications and licenses indicated above, and meet Hospital-mandated education requirements 1-3 years of phlebotomy experience preferred 1-3 years of EPIC lab experience preferred   If you are looking to work with an exceptional team of professionals, we encourage you to consider Jefferson Healthcare.
