Job Description


Position Summary/Essential Duties: Assists healthcare providers in the ambulatory setting.
  1. Obtain patient past and present ocular and general medical history
  2. Perform visual acuity
  3. Perform diagnostic testing under minimal supervision.  These tests include refractometry, visual field testing, axial length, keratometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, intraocular pressure check.

4.) Assists physician with minor office surgery.

  1. Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment
  2. Uses interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other customers
  3. Provides age specific care to patients from toddlers through elderly
  4. Provide other patient services and education as requested by the physicians


Education/Expertise: High school diploma required       Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications: Preferred, but not mandatory:

Completion of a 1 year Certified Ophthalmic Assistant  program or completion of JCAHPO Home Study and 1 year work experience in a similar field

Recertification of COA through CMEs COA         Experience & Knowledge:

2+ years experience in a multi-specialty ophthalmology practice.

Refractometry skills necessary. Basic understanding of contact lens usage Demonstrated skill in interpersonal relationships Ability to work independently in a high stress environment   Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

Use of diagnostic and patient care equipment and general office equipment, including telephone, pager, and fax machines.  Basic computer skills required
