DescriptionPosition Summary/Essential Duties:
Assists healthcare providers in the ambulatory setting.
patient past and present ocular and general medical history
diagnostic testing under minimal supervision.
These tests include refractometry, visual field testing, axial length,
keratometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, intraocular pressure check.
Assists physician with minor office surgery.
responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment
interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and
age specific care to patients from toddlers through elderly
other patient services and education as requested by the physicians
High school diploma required
Required Credentials, License and/or Certifications:
Preferred, but not mandatory:
Completion of a 1 year Certified Ophthalmic Assistant program or completion of JCAHPO Home Study
and 1 year work experience in a similar field
Recertification of COA through CMEs
Experience & Knowledge:
2+ years experience in a multi-specialty ophthalmology
Refractometry skills necessary.
Basic understanding of contact lens usage
Demonstrated skill in interpersonal relationships
Ability to work independently in a high stress environment
Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:
Use of diagnostic and patient care equipment and general
office equipment, including telephone, pager, and fax machines. Basic computer skills required
