Delivers comprehensive patient care, serving as a role model to other staff, mentoring and supervising less-experienced staff, identifying and researching problems, applying research findings to improve the nursing care of patients and the work environment of nurses. Provides consultation for complex/complicated nursing problems, evaluates overall patient care, develops tools to improve the quality/cost/experience of patient care and initiates change when needed to meet the system, population and patient needs. Guides the development, implementation, and coordination of a education programs to meet orientation, continuing educational needs and competency development of nursing personnel assigned. To serve as consultant in area of clinical specialty. To assist with planning and carrying out special hospital and community programs as required. To provide clinical practice leadership to foster patient safety and an excellent patient experience.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in nursing or related healthcare field required for clinical nurse specialist title. Current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license) and specialty certification as required specific to service area preferred. Recognition as Clinical Nurse Specialist by North Carolina Board of Nursing preferred. Demonstrated expertise in acute care nursing care of specific patient population. Thorough knowledge of general and advanced nursing principles, methods and techniques. Expertise in performing nursing procedures. Skill in developing and implementing orientation, continuing education and community program.
