The Athletic Trainer may function in an outreach, clinical or dual setting. While in the outreach setting, they will cover athletic events, practices, and related community activities. The Athletic Trainer may also evaluate and assess active or musculoskeletal injuries or illnesses and design and implement rehabilitation and therapeutic intervention programs in various settings i.e. (Schools, Rehab Clinic, Community events, etc..). They may provide immediate and emergency care. Also, they must function as a liaison between Blue Ridge HealthCare physicians, departments, and the hospital and coaches, athletes, parents, and the community as a whole.
Education: College graduate with a BS, MS or MA degree from a CAATE accredited program or degree with internship route to BOC Certification.
Experience: One-year experience preferred but not required. License/Registration: Current certification through the Board of Certification Inc. and licensed by the NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners. Completion of American Heart Association Healthcare Provider which includes BLS and AED training.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion, including handling/lifting patients, Manual/finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision/hearing to normal range. Requires standing/walking for extensive periods of time with bending, stooping/stretching. Frequently lift/carry items weighing 35 lbs or more. Optimal functioning of bilateral grasp and fine manipulation. Occasionally required to crawl and climb stairs. Required to walk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, stretch, and push/pull heavy items and equipment for extended periods of time.
