Duke Nursing Highlights:
This position is an opportunity for an Advanced Practice Professional to work in a unique setting, a collaborative environment with other NPs or PAs. You will work independently in the assessment of patients preparing for elective and non-elective surgeries and procedures.
The practitioner will perform a focused but comprehensive H&P, order and review laboratory tests and other diagnostic tests such as ECG's, Echo's and stress tests. Once all data is acquired, the practitioner will make a recommendation to the anesthesia team and the surgeon that the patient is optimized and ready or needs more optimization such as nutrition, diabetes management, pain management, smoking cessation, anemia treatment etc. Pathways have been established to fast track patient optimization in these and other areas.

Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing - OR - raduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies.
NP's - No experience required. 3 years of RN experience strongly preferred.
PA's - None required above education/training requirement

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment - OR - licensed in the state of North Carolina, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
