Job Description

Functioning within the Hospital’s mission, values, objectives, policies and procedures the Lead of Clinical Education leads development and implementation of professional development programs to facilitate clinical nurses’ development of clinical competency, critical thinking, and evidence-based practices. Supports development of nursing support staff. Coordinates with Nursing Professional Practice Council and Nursing Leadership to design and facilitate remedial education plans for staff as needed. Collaborates on quality improvement initiatives to enhance professional practice environment and patient care outcomes. Works collaboratively with Nursing Leadership and others to support and guide preceptors. Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates individual educational programs that include a variety of delivery methods. (E.g., instructor led trainings, online train the trainer sessions, hands-on demonstrations, CBL modules, and videos). Utilizes effective communications, conflict resolution, and problem solving skills as needed. Core Responsibilities   Lead and direct operation of nursing education programs and professional development. Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate educational and professional development activities for clinical and support staff. Supports Nursing Leadership, clinical educational specialist and CRN’s to ensure methods of delivery are appropriate to meet the outcome measures. Collaborates with the Nursing Leadership Team and Professional Practice Committee on the development and ongoing review of the courses. Presents class lectures and educational demonstrations, prepares course benchmarks and projects as well as provides updates to Nursing Leadership on residency participant progress. Assesses progress with outcomes measures. Identify gaps in practice across the network. Serves as a key resource for the ongoing development and training of nurses. Facilitate team member development through supporting various initiatives and ongoing communication. Leads new and innovative ways to deliver education. Identify clinical practice issues and trends to articulate gaps in specific knowledge, skills. Assists in defining evidence-based best practices and standards of nursing care for the ongoing support of new nursing staff during orientation and the initial year of entry into practice. Utilizes knowledge as a nurse planner to offer continuing education credits with gap analyses, program objectives and summative evaluation of improvement of knowledge, skills and abilities. Assists nurse managers in identification of performance gaps in maintaining standards, work environment factors, standard performance evaluation criteria/processes and effective training strategies to impact and maintain performance outcomes. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. A Master’s degree is required or must be initiated within first year of hire and completed within 3 years. Licensure/Certification: Valid unrestricted license with the Ohio Board of Nursing. BLS required.  ACLS instructor required  or  obtain within six (6) months of hire.  TNCC, PALS certifications preferred.    Experience: A minimum of five (5) years recent staff development or leadership experience is required. Experience with educational preparations and presentations required (candidate may include one on one teaching for this requirement). History of nursing practice in an inpatient setting dealing with acute and critical health conditions, customer/patient education required. Minimum one (1) year leadership experience (Nursing Supervisor or Manager) is preferred. Skills:Must possess critical thinking and positive communication skills and expert level clinical skills, be motivated and self-directed, and have the ability to integrate numerous job responsibilities. Must also demonstrate the ability to teach and mentor those receiving education and clinical experiences. Knowledge of best practice research and resources, disease processes, nursing practice and educational theory, including adult learning principles. Ability to work independently; display innovative thinking and problem solving.
