Job Description

Under the direction of the Vice President of Patient Care Services, the Director of Nursing provides leadership for Mental Health services at Regions Hospital. Our state of the art Mental Health facility includes 100 private inpatient beds, an 11 bed ED Crisis Unit, the DayBridge partial hospitalization program for intensive daytime therapy, and an Intensive Outpatient Program. This role is accountable for strategic, financial, and operational success of assigned patient care areas and programs. This includes ensuring quality patient care, while improving patient safety and medical error reduction that meets the quality and financial targets of the hospital and inpatient nursing department. This leader will develop a culture of continual improvement in quality and patient safety, seeking excellence in patient outcomes, and minimizing hazards and harm that may result from the processes of care. A successful candidate will have the ability to problem solve at multiple levels within the organization, work with diverse teams to accomplish organizational goals, and ensure that the right resources are in place to meet patient care needs and access to services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited program of nursing AND Master’s degree in nursing, business, health care administration, health science or the behavioral sciences, i.e. psychology, sociology required. Experience: Five (5) years in nursing with at least three (3) years in health care management and/or two (2) years quality improvement, case management and/or utilization review. Experience working in Mental Health is highly preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required at Entry: Knowledge of management theory and practice. Knowledge of PI theory, processes and tools. Knowledge of care management principles processes and tools. Knowledge of system and program development Ability to use PI processes to improve outcomes. Ability to critically think and establish appropriate priorities. Ability to prioritize work, manage time effectively and work independently. Ability to lead and facilitate groups. Ability to problem solve and use analytical skills. Ability to communicate clearly, in a timely manner, both orally, in writing and in presentations. Skilled in use of computer technology and database management, Microsoft Office. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of staff, physicians and other disciplines, patients, family members, general public and external agencies. Skilled in budgeting, setting targets for clinical and business outcomes and executing action plans to achieve targets. Skilled in analyzing data and ability to use data to make data based decisions. Skilled in strategic planning and implementation. A commitment to health equity, diversity and inclusion. Licensure/Registration/ Certification: Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota. ANCC Certification in Nurse Executive or other relevant certification preferred.
