Job Description

Elementary Teacher (1001)s, Provides individualized instruction to meet the needs of students according to their IEP; Assists in the design, coordination, and implementation of a NJDOE approved instructional program within an authentic setting, such as in the home, in a classroom or at a park . Reports to: Principal/Director of Education or designee Employment Status: Exempt Job Duties Designs lesson plans in accordance with the New Jersey Curriculum Standards and the students’ IEP. Works independently with activities of instruction within naturalized settings (such as the home, in an assigned classroom, or at the park) Identifies needs of individual students through evaluation (formative and summative) consistent with New Jersey Curriculum Standards in order to foster realistic student-based outcomes. Completes documentation in accordance with Clinics & Agencies/DOE requirements. Compiles and maintains accurate student data and records according to school goals and objectives. Uses specialized student equipment and instructional methods effectively; Demonstrates an understanding of childhood development. Consults with other members of the IEP team to assemble information consistent with the needs and capabilities of each student; Integrates the most appropriate educational program into each student’s overall program. Attends all required annual in-services online or in person Recognizes when a student requires medical assistance and responds appropriately by providing necessary assistance or summoning assistance in a timely manner. Respects basic human rights, dignity and confidentiality of persons served as well as property belonging to others. Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives as appropriate. Attends all required staff in-services. Maintains a clean and safe working environment for all concerned. Effectively communicates with department head, co-workers, persons served, their families, and outside agency personnel as appropriate. Commits time necessary to the job to ensure appropriate staffing and completion of duties and responsibilities. Effectively manages time at work. Complies with Employee Health requirements. Complies with Matheny policies, procedures, standards of performance and Code of Conduct. Approved background check required from all appropriate government agencies. New Jersey Department of Education background check clearance or emergent hire approval required, if applicable. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Education Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university required. Licensure/Certifications Requires: Standard New Jersey Certification in Elementary – K-6 and Teachers of Students With Disabilities Endorsement or TOH Standard Certification. Highly Qualified Status required for each content area taught. Approved background check required from appropriate government agencies. New Jersey Department of Education background check clearance or emergent hire approval required. Working Conditions/Physical Demands Activity Requirements: Requires picking up, pinching, twisting, and typing. Worker is required to hold onto objects. Requires worker to express himself/herself. Includes conveying detailed or important instructions accurately. Physical Requirements: Sedentary Work: Requires worker to expend up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or smaller amounts of force frequently. The force is used to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Jobs are considered sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally. Requirements: Worker is required to: prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribe; view a computer terminal; extensive reading; operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at a close distance. Worker is required to review/inspect his/her assigned work, the work of others, or facilities or structures. Position requires travel to students’ homes and starts off with at least two hours per day. Parents prefer instruction during the day. Working Conditions: Worker is exposed to contagious and infectious diseases; Worker is exposed to human elements and bodily fluids. Worker is subjected to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
